RSS - What is RSS?

What is RSS?  What is a "feed"?

This page introduces you to RSS and helps you get started using it.

RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is a new technology you can use to have information sent to you. RSS is a free service that automatically sends information about new web content, such as updates to FPAN's News & Events page or our Notices page. RSS saves users from having to repeatedly visit favorite websites to check for new content or be notified of updates via email.

RSS "feeds" help FPAN make content more accessible, and they allow you to easily see new content that we update.  A summary, or "headline" view, lets you quickly scan recent content changes. These headline are linked to their appropriate full content on our website.

FPAN provides continually updated information feeds from all the designated sections and delivers them directly to your desktop or handheld news reader.

(Note: Not every headline that goes up on the website will automatically be sent to you. What you receive may vary depending on how we update the feed.)

How can I use RSS?  How do I subscribe to a feed?

RSS links all over the web look like this: Image: RSS button or Image: XML button. Both are the same and represent content to which you can subscribe.

In order to receive RSS feeds, you need an RSS reader. You can then subscribe to the website from which you want to receive content, and the information will be delivered automatically to your RSS reader.

Several free and commercial RSS readers are available on the Internet and we have listed several popular ones on our site. Most are simply desktop programs that you download and install on your computer and set to run automatically. Find a News Reader application here

After installing the news reader, you can add each RSS feed manually from our
web site in two ways:

1.

In our RSS Directory, right-click on the "RSS" orange button next to the feed you choose, select "Copy Shortcut", then paste it into your news reader program, according to your reader's instructions.

2.

If you're on an FPAN page with the "RSS" orange button under the page title, right-click on the "RSS" button, select "Copy Shortcut", then paste it into your news reader program, according to your reader's instructions.

What are the terms of use?

The FPANevada.org feeds in the RSS format are provided free of charge for use by individuals for personal, non-commercial uses.

FPAN reserves the right to cease offering these feeds at any time or require you to cease distributing these feeds at any time for any reason.
